Audio cassettes or tapes, and even CDs, are not suitable for preserving their content for very long. After 40 years, it's usually over - mostly much earlier... despite optimal storage, which is rarely the case in private households. The tape carrier changes and decomposes chemically, and the tapes begin to stick at the surface. Chrome dioxide and metal tapes, which were available at the end, are better than the first iron oxide tapes, but time takes its toll here too. Therefore, think about transferring your valuable audio treasures in time.
