Choir Recordings

The Actual Recordings

Choir recordings simply need space – and we have it. With flexible acoustics, a grand piano, and the right microphones, good recordings are no great challenge.
Soloists can be recorded simultaneously, acoustically separated, or afterwards as an overdub. Depending on the arrangement and strength of the individual voices, we will choose the microphone positioning and selection of spot microphones.

Possible Process of the Recordings

We should definitely talk about the planning in advance. Depending on the scope of the recordings, which is usually around 10-15 titles, we need 1-2 days or rather 1-2 half days.

On Day 1 we meet for preparation, rehearsals, warm-up etc. and then for the actual recordings. If the program is well rehearsed, experience shows that you can expect 15 minutes per title. In this time we can even do a 2nd take, i.e. record the title 2 times. Afterwards, there is the possibility for everyone to stay overnight in the nearby hotel.

On Day 2 the choir director is especially needed, because we meet for mixing and mastering the entire album. Depending on the effort and requirements, I would also estimate 3-4 hours for this.

The Leisure Idea

The singers can depart after the recordings or take the chance to go on a small trip to the beautiful Palatinate the next day. Those who like hiking are in the right place here and if the recording day is on a Saturday, it makes sense to use the opportunity...
